The inspiring stories of some of our beneficiaries, and how we have helped change their lives for better.

Tiffany

Tiffany battered in a domestic violent marriage for 26 years. She was abused daily, mentally, emotionally, and sometimes, physically battered. She was financially stressed and depressed, without any financial support. She desperately needed empathy, compassion, love, and support in her life and, her husband wasn’t giving it to her. She felt caged like a wounded dog and wanted to break free from her abusive relationship. One butter, cold, winter morning, with the wind chill temperature 6 deferral below zero, she secretively gathered her three children and left her husband. She then went to live with her handicap sister in a wheelchair.

To make a long story short, she enrolled in the Gift of a Helping Hand Charitable Trust’s Technology and Financial Empowerment & Career Program. After the training, she got a part-time job and was on her way to a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. Helping Hands Technology, Financial & Career Empowerment Program is helping women, like Tiffany, to break the barrier of domestic violence. Support us in our efforts and donate today.

Tina

Tina was living on the streets of metropolitan Detroit, Michigan, after she had fled from her domestic partner, who had been beating her to an inch of her life. She was hospitalized for 2 weeks and released with all the domestic violence shelters being full. She had neither family nor friends because her abusive partner allayed her from them, leaving her feeling alone, not loved and worthless. After living on the streets for a couple of months, a compassionate and empathetic stranger embrace Tina’s story and took her in and referred her to Helping Hands Technology, Financial & Career Empowerment Program.

Tina enrolled in the program and completed all of the courses. She repaired her credit report and enrolled in a College. Presently, she is working on her Master’s Degree in Business Management and, now, she has started her small business, helping other women. She now volunteers for the Gift Of a Helping Hand Charitable Trust as a part-time Finance Counselor. Carol Pratt

Carol Pratt was in an abusive marriage for 26 years and never got the chance to grieve the loss of her mother, brother, and father, because her husband stole those moments from her, as he strived vigorously to interrupt her peace of mind, and continued to be abusive towards her. Whatever happened to the love, compassion, and empathy that once possessed the world, she thought. Carol decided if she wanted her life to change, and the physical, mental, emotional and financial abuse to stop, she had to break free of her husband chains of abuse and manipulation he had over her. After 26 years, Carol walked out the door in the freezing temperatures of zero below outside and decided not to look back.

Weeks later, Carol enrolled in Helping Hands Technology, Career, and Financial Empowerment Program and completed all stages of the program. And now she is on the journey of obtaining the career of her dreams. Carol Pratt life is filled with love, joy, peace, and happiness, and owes it all to Helping Hands Educational Program because the program changed her life. Carol self-esteem is soaring, and she learned to have self-respect for herself once again. Thank you, Gift of a Helping Hands Charitable TR for helping me and other domestic violence survivors to break the barriers of domestic, physical, mental, emotional and financial abuse toward women.
